Masterclass with Janez Burger
SATURDAY 30 NOVEMBER | 17:00h | FILMHUIS DEN HAAG ROOM 4
Acclaimed Slovenian director and scriptwriter Janez Burger, co-founder of the production company Stara Gara, will lead a masterclass sharing insights into his filmmaking process, career, and his latest film, Observing, which will be screened at the festival. Known for weaving genre elements with socially conscious themes, Burger’s films often explore today’s world’s ethical and moral challenges. His earlier works, such as Idle Running (1999), Ivan (2017), and Circus Fantasticus (2010), have earned widespread praise and have been featured at numerous international film festivals.
In Observing, inspired by a true event in Slovenia, Burger crafts a chilling thriller about a young paramedic entangled in a violent assault that was streamed live on social media. The film offers a genre-driven reflection on the digital age and the complex intersection between social passivity and moral ambiguity.
This masterclass presents a unique opportunity to explore Burger’s distinct storytelling style, genre use, and exploration of contemporary social issues. Join us on Saturday 30 November at 17h – Room 5
