FILM TALK: prof Nenad Fiser

Nenad Fiser taught philosophy at the University of Sarajevo, until the war broke out in 1992 and he resettled in The Netherlands. He worked 20 years at the International Criminal Tribunal for Former Yugoslavia in The Hague as an Analyst and Research Officer. His specialty is in the domain of acquisition of information from Internet-based sources. His major research subject is the phenomenon of propaganda, the mechanisms of its work, and legal issues in dealing with indictable forms of propagandistic action.

Inspired by true events, director Jasmila Zbanic, herself a survivor of the war, revisits Bosnia’s Srebrenica massacre. Winner of European Film Awards, an Oscar nominee and this year’s LUX Audience Award finalist. A breathtaking story, masterfully performed. 

Bosnia, 11 July 1995. Aida is a translator for the United Nations in the small town of Srebrenica. When the Serbian army takes over the town, her family is among the thousands of civilians seeking shelter in the UN camp. As an insider to the negotiations, Aida has access to crucial information that she needs to interpret. What fate awaits her family and people – rescue or death? What move should she make?
