Where does a family visit end and a home invasion begin? A comedy about a horror that each of us may encounter.

Translator Jirka and physiotherapist Aneta, a couple in their thirties, are at a stage in their relationship where everything is going smoothly. However, when Jirka’s mother—a woman whose presence is impossible to ignore—arrives for what should be a short visit, things slowly spiral into chaos, as her stay turns into an invasion that disrupts their lives. This low-budget indie film by Jan Vejnar and Tomas Pavlicek, a directing duo with a love for genre films, delivers an entertaining blend of dark comedy, psychological drama, and a hint of horror. Unafraid to ask the crucial question, ‘Can mothers sometimes become the worst monsters of all?’—this film stands as one of the most praised Czech films of the past year.

Both screenings will include a Q&A with the directors Tomáš Pavlíček and Jan Vejnar.

Enjoy a cocktail after the screening on Saturday 30 November at 20:45h.

DIRECTOR’S BIO

The directing duo Pavlíček-Vejnar collaborated for the first time on the script and direction of the Czech Critic’s Awards evening. It was here that the idea to join forces and create a joint film was born. Due to the complex financing, the couple chose an alternative route. The film “She Came at Night” was created only thanks to the contribution of the directors and producers and the personal commitment of the entire crew.
