DIRECTOR’S BIO
Considered one of Lithuania’s most talented upcoming filmmakers, film director and scriptwriter Marija Kavtaradze (b. 1991) graduated from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre, Film Directing Studies in 2014. Her debut feature film Summer Survivors premiered at Toronto IFF 2018, did a solid career at international festivals and received three Lithuanian Film Academy awards. Slow is her second feature film.
While making Slow, I was thinking a lot about intimacy and how it is developed between two persons. At the beginning of the process, I considered this film to be about sexuality, but as I was digging into my characters more and changing with them, I realized it is much more about a strong need to create and keep the connection. Also, I’m a big admirer of romantic films and was keen on exploring this genre in my film (and on film, haha).
