Between Film and Art · 21 & 28 March · De Balie, Amsterdam

ENFF’s Between Film and Art is coming to De Balie in Amsterdam on March 21 and 28 with two special screenings of experimental cinema and artist-driven films from broader Eastern Europe and its transnational intersections.

Across two Saturdays, we present four film works that reactivate and continue to shape cinematic lineages from the margins — of the canon, of Europe, of normative regimes of visibility and production. It is in such margins that cinema becomes something else.

Part 1, on March 21, brings together two films shaped by patient attention and tender politics: Unstable Rocks (25 min, 2024) by Ewelina Rosińska with Nuno Barroso, and Rudzienko (53 min, 2016) by Sharon Lockhart. Part 2, on March 28, presents two works in which cinema becomes a ritual and a bridge: the dual 16mm projection performance her* hands and his shape (15 min, 2017—) by Sílvia das Fadas and Masha Godovannaya, and Bibi Seshanbe (52 min, 2022) by Saodat Ismailova. Screenings are followed by conversations with the filmmakers and programmer Temra Pavlović.
