Martin Turk: I Was Afraid to Talk About My Identity, It Took Me Years to Understand It

Martin Turk is one of the Slovenian film directors whose film was screened during our last edition of the Eastern Neighbours Film Festival. His featured film Don’t Forget to Breathe is partly autobiographical, based on his relationship with his brother, and was shown as part of our special program In Focus: New, Vibrant Slovenian Cinema.

Alma Imamovic – Ivanov talked with him about the process of creating this movie; why he decided to make a feature film instead of a short one as originally planned; how hard it was to cast actors, especially the ones who are playing two young brothers, and about the influence his dual Italian/Slovenian nationality had on his growing up and creative process.
