Mijn verjaardag is de mooiste dag van het jaar.
Mijn verjaardag begint altijd op het kerkhof.

DIRECTOR`S STATEMENT

“Deze film onderzoekt een tegenstrijdigheid tussen de waarneming van de rituelen van de familie tijdens de nationale feestdag en mijn persoonlijke beleving van 9 mei – mijn verjaardag. Omdat ik zowel de hoofdpersoon als de filmmaker ben, had ik een kans om te ervaren en na te denken over de emotionele band tussen de twee gebeurtenissen”.

Mariia Ponomarova is geboren en getogen in Kiev, Oekraïne, en afgestudeerd aan het Master of Film programma van de Nederlandse Filmacademie. Als regisseur en eerste regieassistent maakte ze eerder documentaires en fictiefilms. Tijdens de revolutie in Oekraïne nam ze deel aan de ‘Babylon’13 – cinema of civil protest’-beweging.
