Masterclass By Damir Imamovic

Saturday 10 November | 16:00 – 17:30 hours | Filmhuis Den Haag

The Guardian calls Damir Imamović «a new take on Balkan blues», while The Huffington Post goes even further with the flattering «King of Sevdah» title. An iconic Bosnian musician will give a multimedia lecture ‘East’ and ‘West’ in the genre of sevdah, at this year’s Eastern Neigbours Film Festival.

Damir Imamović is one of the leading voices of contemporary music from the Balkans. As a performer and teacher, he brought a renewed attention to the ancient genre of Bosnian traditional music called “Sevdah” or “Sevdalinka”. His work spreads from performing, recording, producing, teaching and writing on the genre.

Damir Imamović’s Sevdah is based on a passionate research of traditional music of Bosnia and Herzegovina. While meeting the masters, musicians, singers and authors of this art form, he constantly expands his repertoire and creates a special style of contemporary sevdah.

Director Marina Andree made a documentary Sevdah, inspired by an emotional part of this process and the film will be screened after the masterclass. Winner of the Audience Award at Sarajevo Film Festival 2009.
